The Magic of Glamping

This may be an unpopular opinion for the purists out there, but camping can be as basic or as bougie as you want it to be.

Maybe you’re curious about getting into camping, or maybe you say things like, “I used to camp, but I can’t sleep on the ground anymore.” Here’s the thing . . . camping doesn’t have to be that way. That’s the magic of “glamping” – you get to immerse yourself in the peace and beauty of nature while retaining some of your creature comforts.

There’s something magical and almost childlike about glamping. It’s kind of like when we built blanket forts as kids, except this “blanket fort” has its own electricity, temperature control and – most importantly – a proper bed. With strings of twinkling lights overhead and walls of canvas enveloping you in your own cozy world, it’s easy to let your imagination blossom in the enchantment of your surroundings. Even for the avid tent-camper, it’s fun to glamp every once in a while.

Of course, the most superior way to experience the outdoors without sacrificing modern comforts is to take your home with you – that is, RV camping. If you’re fortunate enough to own an RV, you know exactly what amenities you’re bringing with you: running water, kitchen space, a toilet that flushes – they don’t diminish the experience of getting out into the wild. They just make “the wild” a little easier to handle.

These are a few of our favorite places for glamping and RVing in Choctaw Country – places where you can tap into the wilderness with a sense of childlike wonder.

1. Broken Bow & Hochatown | Yurts, Glamping & RVs
Beavers Bend State Park is home to two luxurious yurts, conveniently seated along the peaceful banks of Mountain Fork River. Each yurt features a queen-sized bed and sleeper sofa to accommodate up to four people and a large wraparound porch overlooking the river. Beautiful, waterside RV accommodations can also be found within the park along Mountain Fork River and the shores of Broken Bow Lake.

For a tent glamping experience, Glampin’ In Style – Broken Bow offers oversized luxury tents situated on a raised deck. Each fully closeable tent has beds with comfortable memory foam mattresses, outdoor furniture and private bathroom access.

2. Robbers Cave | Yurts, Lake Hut, Covered Wagons & RVs
Robbers Cave State Park has several options for unconventional camping. Choose from two yurts, each with a queen-sized bed, sleeper sofa and large deck with a tranquil view of Lake Carlton. Lakeside views can also be enjoyed in the lake hut – a rustic, cabin-like accommodation near the front entrance of the park.

For a truly memorable experience, nothing beats a stay in the covered wagon. Get a small taste of the pioneer days in this charming, covered wagon with queen-sized bunk beds, microwave, mini-fridge, fire ring and charcoal grill.

RVers are spoiled for choice, with options to stay near the ATV trails, in the equestrian campgrounds, along the Fourche Maline tributary or surrounded by the woods.

3. Lake Eufaula State Park | Yurts & RVs
Lake Eufaula State Park boasts three yurts along the stunning shores of Lake Eufaula, abutting the Fountainhead Creek Golf Course. Two of the yurts come with full-sized futon bunk beds, while the Honeymoon Yurt features a single queen canopy bed with a net draping. All yurts are equipped with a wall-mounted TV.

Back-in and pull-through RV pads are located throughout the park and feature water, sewage and 30-amp electric hookups. Stay in the Deep Fork Campground for easy access to the marina where guests can enjoy food, drinks, shopping and boat rentals.

4. K River Campground | Tree Houses, Glamping & RVs
No matter where or how you stay at K River Campground, you’re in for a good time. With concerts at the outdoor stage, sand volleyball, ATV trails, kayaking, canoeing and more, there’s always something going on and plenty of opportunities to mingle with other groups.

Get the full glamping experience in one of the two safari-style glamping tents, featuring windows, covered porch areas and a queen or two full-sized beds.

Or really tap into your inner child with a stay in one of the two enchanting tree houses. These cozy treetop cabins sleep two and come with a mini-fridge, outdoor shower, microwave, Keurig and private balcony with romantic views of the Kiamichi River.
